Hare goes to ground

A hare under pressure takes the first bit of cover it finds, and bolt holes like this are a dream come true. I am unsure what or who would have originally made this hole but both hare followed by a goshawk shot down this one.

Once the goshawk had been extracted the frustrated falconers set about trying to dislodge the hare for a re-flush.

They had no hope of achieving this goal as this cavernous hole was extensive, still I watch with some amusement as these two dug deeper and deeper into the clay soil.

Eventually they conceded that the hare had beat them and he would live to run another day.
