The title picture is of a fine gentleman and falconry friend Lorant de Bastyai. A famous Hungarian falconer who came to live in the United Kingdom just after the Second World War and was the founding father of the Welsh Hawking Club.
He was a kind man who was always happy to help anyone who showed any interest in falconry, a recognisable figure whose falconry hat became as famous as he was and must have weighed a few pounds with all the metal falconry badges it sported.
Many falconers of the time emulated his love of badges but I never saw anyone sporting more than Lorant.
Below are a few from my old falconry hat, if you have a club badge that is not amongst these and can spare one, please donate one and I will add to this gallery of falconry badges.
I have included what our American falconry friends call "meet pins" because they also are celebrations of falconry. |
