Charles Browning American Eagle falconer

High above the Camas prairie, Charles Browning stands a survey’s the view below. On his arm is “Messiah” his male captive bred Golden Eagle.

Charles and I started corresponding with each other about our experiences hunting with eagles back in 1992. The following year I had decided to visit the US to meet Morlan Nelson and as Charles lived in the same state we hooked up and went hawking.
Charles had concentrated on taking feathered game with “Messiah” in the early years then moved onto jackrabbits as the population increased after one of their cyclic crashes.

Charles had a desire to train a golden to hunt the large sage grouse and I discussed this with another enlightened falconer. Both had witnessed a wild eagle burst out of the heavens and explode a grouse from a covey they had flushed.
