I take Gracie my Large Munsterlander young bitch working dog up on our local heather moorland to get some experience of the open space, the heather and the smells of red grouse and moorland sheep. Of course I am very aware to make sure she only goes there out of breeding season for both the grouse and lambing time. Otherwise she is kept on a long line to make sure that as a young dog still learning her craft that she does not put a foot wrong and get into any trouble. To take a young dog into this type of environment is a wonderful learning experience but if not done with care it can be quite the opposite if chasing and out of control excitement takes over. So this type of activity must be done with great care and some planning. |
